How can I convince my parents to start eating healthy?

I am 15 years old and I am overweigth blah blah blah. I am researching around and looking on how to eat healthy, because frankly, I have been eating hamburgers and chicken nuggets my whole life and I know I need to change. But my parents continue to buy hot dogs and ice cream bars, especially my dad. They are reluctant to change but I want to educate them on how to eat whole grains, vegetables, and friuts instead of all meat. How can I convince my parents to start eating healthy?
Excellent!!!

Start with bringing home some pamphlets about eating healthy, losing weight, controlling diabetes , preventing heart disease ... anything to do with living a healthy lifestyle. I threw diabetes in there because most people who are overweight develop diabetes, and getting a handle on your health now will be a huge factor in preventing heart disease and diabetes when you're an adult.

Start asking your mom to pick up fruits, vegetables, and whole grain bread for you, and make sure you eat those things FIRST, before you eat any of the junk food in the house.

Start making healthy choices for yourself when you go out - even fast food restaurants have healthier choices nowadays, including fruit cups and salads and fruit juices.

Start cooking on weekends or whenever you can. Ask them to pick up specific items, and then cook dinner or lunch or breakfast using those items. Practice with small amounts first, so you get some practice in and can be sure the food you are serving is edible :D

Someone else mentioned eating healthy yourself and criticizing your folks ... that is not the right way to handle things. Nobody likes being criticized. Try encouragement and serious discussions ... they are liable to be much more effective in the long run!

Throwing away food they spend their money on is also not likely to be very effective. However, asking Mom to prepare a healthy salad with the chicken nuggets instead of fries is a good compromise. So is eating a sandwich piled high with lettuce, tomatoes, or any other crunchy vegetable (sliced carrots, sliced zucchini, sliced cucumber, alfalfa sprouts, etc etc etc) alongside a handful of chips and dip or a couple of cookies. Making a conscious decision to make better choices while still using up the not-so-healthy foods in the house is a better decision than throwing away things behind your parents' back. How can I convince my parents to start eating healthy?
Awesome! Keep at it, and keep coming up with new things to try and do.

I really thing the best thing is to experiment with cooking yourself, because sometimes parents just feel too tired to do anything properly when they get home from a busy day at work.

And again, it is FANTASTIC that you are trying to head this off yourself, and trying to be responsible for your own health. If you see a doctor for checkups, try to get some information from him the next time you're in, too.

Or, if you know any doctors or nutritionists, just ask them if you can pick their brain for a moment and get some information. Sometimes, when they're friends, they don't mind giving information to people they know - especially when it is a young person trying to better themselves.

Best of luck!

My mother was in this situation when she was your age. The ironic thing was that she grew up on a fruit and vege farm but her parents wouldn't eat them unless they were made into sweets or boiled into a salty sludge and they just ate so badly and were all huuuuuuge.

Mother discovered for herself that fruit and veges could be eaten raw, learned to make salads, cook her own whole wheat bread and soups and lost over 5 stone by the time she was 17. She had to be incredibly vigilant because her parents wouldn't change and she realised she was completely on her own. So if you can't change your parents even by setting a good example you're just going to have to take things into your own hands and be responsible for your own healthy survival.

I am eternally grateful to my mother for instilling good eating habits in me that she learned herself. Your own children will thank you too. Good on you and best of luck! Don't give up :)

Even hamburgers (or even better - vegeburgers) can be healthy too if you use the right ingredients. Can you write them a shopping list for you? Make one while looking on an online shopping website perhaps.
Whole grains will make you fat.
Just Do What I Do Eat Better Your Self And Criticize Them About How They Dont Eat Healthier Like You

It worked for me

=)
you can offer to cook meals, and then get healthy recipes that are easy to prepare and cook them.
Try cooking a few healthy meals and see if that works. You could talk to your school counselor and see they have any ideas that won't offend your parents. If nothing else works, lead by example and adopt the healthy eating habits.
well, show your parents what may happen to them if they continue their bad eating habits and then you should have them try some healthy food and show them that it does taste good.
You may not be able to. But, you can eat healthy yourself. Tell your Mother to pick up things you know you should be eating. They can have chicken nuggets (gross!) you have a salad.
well it wont work on all parents, but sit them down nd if they don't have super high tempers.. say

I WILL BE A FAT KID WITH DIABETES CLINGED TO A THINGAMAGIBBY IN THE HOSPITIAL HANGING ON TO DEAR LIFE BECAUSE YOU HAVN'T CHNAGED MY DIET.. AND YOU WILL TOO IF YOU CONTINUE TO EAT THAT!

or, throw out all the unhealthy food in the house and replace it with healthy stuff when they leave the home for about 3 hours or more ( example work )
