Some possible side effects might be that children who get 'spanked' or other physical discipline might think that hitting others is ok.What are the side effects of parents using physical action to discipline their children?
I feel that resorting to physical abuse to control your child shows an incredible lack of patience on the parent's part. Yes, in some cases a spank on the bottom might be necessary, but I found the use of timeouts VERY effective.

Spanking is using fear and intimidation to teach a child to not do a certain behavior, but doesn't teach WHY he or she shouldn't do the behavior.
It depends on a couple of things. The frequency, severity and reason for the punishment. Also depends on the personality of the child.
They may grow up thinking it's OK to hit people, then end up abusing their husbands/wives later in life.
it depends on the situation... in our place its better to spanked than to spoil them... sometimes its needed so that the child knows the consequence of their actions....
1: kids associate doing wrong things, with physical pain. they are less likely to engage in the wrong activity again.

2: they are more likely to 'punish' someone else when they do something wrong

3: they would expect to be hurt when they know theyve done something wrong

4: they associate pain with being bad. maybe when they feel bad they would hurt themselves.

thats what i can think up.
