How can i convince my parents to let me get a dog for my birthday?

I really want a dog, i've had one before and didn't take care of it but now i think i'm ready for the responsibilities now. Do you have any advice on asking my parents for a dog?How can i convince my parents to let me get a dog for my birthday?
first of all....here are the steps:

1. stop asking

2. stop bringing it up

3. do extra chores and when you are done ask if there is more to be done.

4. after a month or so of doing chores ask if they think you are responsable

5. if they say yes started looking up litters.

6. show your parents a little online or in a newspaper and ask if you can just go to LOOK.

7. when you are at the breeders/shelter say omg its so cute! i would take care of you forever and ever and then say mom..can we please get it?

8. if she says no then dont whine or cry. say ok...i guess i can wait

9. continue doing this until you have a dog.

good luck. convincing parents will not work. trust me. ive been there! i did everything there except the first litter we went to my mom fell in love with my chihuahua! i brought him home that night!

edit: this is my first dog and i didn't think he would be that much work. he is. you need to take them to pee every hour and every morning , twice in the night, after he eats or drinks , when he wakes up from a nap its a lot of work and i feel like he is a baby! litterally. so he is my baby and i need to take care of him. remember that when you are choosing your dog. and for you...if you havn't tooken care of your last dog maybe you should get a dog that doesn't need as much attention. (all dogs need attention though)How can i convince my parents to let me get a dog for my birthday?
when your taking to them dont let them say that their the ones that will be taking care of it...convince them before they say that that you can take care of it and they wont
Start doing things around the house (dishes, dusting, vacuuming, clean your room) without being asked for a solid month at the least and then ask them again. If they notice you have been more responsible lately they will be more likely to say yes!
hmmm..... didnt take care of a real creature i dont think u should get another 1
show them that your responsible remind them all the time you will pick up after it feed it and all that.

thats how i got mine. it was a big suprise!

GOOD LUCK!;]
Dogs take ALOT of time and patience. You have to take them outside to go to the bathroom, exercise them, give them lots of attention, they have to be fed at least twice a day, they need to be groomed and depending on the breed may need alot of brushing, and they need good training. Don't beg for a dog if you aren't ready for the all-day responsibility it takes to own a dog who will be around for many years. If you think you can do this now, look into different breeds online and everything you need to do to properly raise a dog. If your parents see you're well informed and ready for the challenge, they might just let you have one.
tell ur parents ur lonely and if u dont get a dog ull kill urself. worked for me i got a cute little puggle puppie bye bye!!
Well that depends if you live in an apartament where there is not much room for a dog then they are probably going to say no. But if not then:

~ I think you should tell your parent that it will help you having a dog because it will give you some company in rainy day and you will always have him there.

~ Also tell them it willteach you responsability and parent like that word trust me :D

Good Luck
you have to convince them that you will look after it maybe try walking the neibhourhood dogs to show them you will walk the dog
Try a points system. Everytime you do something good or ace a test you get a certain amounts of points. When you reach a certain number of points you can get a dog. Thats what worked for me.

You could also put together a little presentation. Showing your parents how to care for dogs, play with them and ect ect. This shows your parents you are responsible and fully capable of caring for a dog. If you had other pets that you took good care of then you can mention those too. Saving up your money to buy supplies for your dog is also a plus.

Either way you try good luck!
not to sound repetitive, but the previous answers are all right. You should first demonstrate that your current responsibilities are easily and willfully managed. Bring new responsibilities upon yourself( washing dishes, extra house cleaning, etc etc). If possible start a garden, which is a time consuming project that is of a longer term and requires daily attention. Watch shows like the dog whisperer, pay attention, and learn from it. Offer to take other dogs for walks and exercise activities(possibly a way to earn a buck and demonstrate your sincerity in the desire to do the right thing). But most important, look into yourself...Do you want a dog for the right reasons? Not as a toy or a plaything, but rather as a companion and a friend.
So that you are responisible in another way. Like keep doing your chores, homework, do chores that aren't yours, anything that parents like.
