What are some of the best ways to convince my parents to let me get a pair of rats for pets? How do I get my parents to let me get rats?
tell them this:(the truth)
they are super clean(cleaner than dogs):they make corners for themselves to ';go'; and lick themselves clean 6 times a day
they are super smart(smarter than cats,some say) :they can learn tricks, their own names, and the word ';no';
they are super affectionate:they can love you and trust you, and ride on your shoulder.
their fur smells like grape soda(haha....true)
what i did to gain responsibility is a cleaned out my whole room and got rid of a bunch of stuff. do it without them asking you.
good luck....i want a rat sooo bad too but my mom thinks they're creepy, but i did my research so no worries. How do I get my parents to let me get rats?
I have two female rats, u can do research and rats and prove to ur mom that u no what to do thats what i did
You tell them that they are amazing pets!
~Fun-loving creatures that thrive on human interaction.
~Smart enough to learn some tricks and to respond to their name.
~Not prone to biting as most hamsters are.
~Same life span as a hamster.
~Easier to tame than most rodents.
~Can be taught to be litter trained.
~Are as cute as hamsters, if not cuter. ^_^
~Enjoy being stroked and don't shy away from your touch.
All these and more! Let your parents know these are not the same scary sewer rats people think they are. They are wonderful pets, I have had a lot of rodent pets in the past, but I have come to believe that rats are the only ones that truly want to be in your company. If they are willing to let you get a hamster or gerbil, they should let you have a rat. :D
Good luck!!

tell them the good things
1.they can and WILL be kept in there cage in YOUR room
2. if they get lose they owe you no allowence for the rest of the year
3. they can be played with in the cage only (get them out in your room)
Show them your responsible! Clean your room, do your homework, research a lot on rats. Show them some of your research. Maybe they simply do not want a rodent. Ask them if they will get you any other kind of pet. Also ask them why it is that they don't want a rat(s). When getting pet, especially a rodent, it is very easy to fall into a trap and say ';It will be such a breeze.'; Taking care of a pet like rats takes A LOT of your free time and space. I have two guinea pigs, but they are only healthy because I spend so much time with them. Rats aren't the only pets out they either- and besides, they can bite pretty harshly! (guinea pigs seldom bite...mine don't even bite at all!) Good luck! (another tip...don't yell at you parents for not letting you get a rat...that will ruin your chance of getting any pet...plus it shows you are not responsible.) :)
Do research on your own before asking them, so you have an answer when they come back with the typical anti rant stereotypes such as 'rats are gross and carry diseases', or 'rats smell horrible!' (both of which aren't true). Get some books, visit some online pet rat sites, go to your parents with a 'rat presentation' that shows that you really did your research on these animals, and you know what you're getting into. Rats are clean, funny, smart, playful, cuddly animals that make amazing pets. They dont smell much at all and typically bite less then hamsters. If you do your research, and start saving your money so you can afford the rats (and their needs, such as a large cage, accessories, food, etc), maybe your parents will cave. Also try to find some cute pictures of pet rats so that you can show your parents if they assume that all rats are huge nasty sewer dwelling creatures.
