How do I convince my parents to get another dog?

We already have a family dog. I love her alot but i've always wanted a dog of my own. It sounds wierd but I've wanted my very own dog since I was like 6 and now i'm 14. I am saving my money and I want to save a dog at the pound. I have my eye on a adult hound/lab mix. He'll be gone by the time I have the money but more will come. How much do shelter dogs cost? How can I convince my parents to let me adopt a dog?How do I convince my parents to get another dog?
You can talk to them, and take really good care of the dog you already have, without ANY whining or reminding, ever. However, you have to remember that ultimately, even if you pay for the dog and take care of it, it's your parents house, and they have a right to say who and what lives there. But you can ask them about it and tell them how you feel. Just be prepared to accept whatever answer you get. You're too old to beg.

Shelter dogs cost anywhere from $75 to $250 in my experience. But the reality is, even if you buy one, your parents don't have to let you keep it, then you would have to return it to the shelter and they get to keep your money.

I know its hard to wait, but while you are still a child, and live under your parents roof, you can't have some of the things you want. Fortunately, you are only a few years away from being a grown up, where you will spend most of your life, and you can make your life anything you want it to be! Don't worry, you'll get there. You sound like a caring kid, so I bet you'll have a great life with lots of dogs! How do I convince my parents to get another dog?
beg for a giraffe when they say no say you guess you would be happy with just a dog :)
I adopted a dog from a local humane shelter and she was $200, but because she was a purebred. The normal rate for a mixed breed dog was $80. It just depends on the dog and also on the shelter, they vary. About how to convince your parents...try showing a little more inicitative around the house. Show them that you are responsible and ready for bigger responsibility. Go and do some research, see how much your local shelter charges, read up on how expencive a new dog would be and how you would train him. Show that you have answers to any question that they might ask you like ';when are you going to walk him?, are you going to keep up with your other responsibilities?'; Things a parent would ask. I'm sure that if you show them that you have done your homework about this and that you are really serious they will hear you out.
Shelter dogs where I live cost 70 dollars for adults and 50 for puppies. That is with shots, worming and neutering/spaying. It will vary where you live but not by much. I admire you greatly for wanting to save a shelter dog but you have to remember that your a 14 year old. Who will pay for dog's care? Dog's food? Dog's shots? Dog's illnesses? The answer is your parents. Are they financially able to take on the care of another dog? If not, then you are being selfish by asking them to. If they are, have you been responsible with the family dog? Have you walked it? Have you bathed it? Have you fed it? Or have your parents had to do it? It does not sound weird at all that you want your OWN dog, but if your parents can't afford the care owning a second dog entails and/ or you have not been responsible with the dog you have.... then it is something you might have to wait a few years for. Good Luck.
Well, I think you should try talking to your parents about how long you've wanted your own dog. Then give them reasons why another dog would be good, like keeping your other dog company. If they agree, maybe they will lend you some money so you can get the dog you want too.
If they are saying no, they likely have good reason. You need to find out what this reason is, and if you can change things. Maybe they just don't want another dog in the house and the expense that comes along with a 2nd dog.
Me too. I have a dog which is older than me in about 1 week. At first, I had one dog only. I convinced my parents by making them a deal. They told me to cut my hair so I can get my dog, Albert. They wanted me to study hard and be 3rd honor to get Josalyn, then, Josalyn gave birth and the deal is I have to pick only one from her 5 puppies. She gave birth 3 times and the 3rd breeding, none was left for me.
There are so meny dogs that go to the pound..you will allways find one you';ll like...and as for your parents show them your ready for a dog of your own ...GOOD LUCK !!
