How can I convince my parents to let me have a dog?

I really want a dog, but My parents are unconvinced!How can I convince my parents to let me have a dog?
A dog or any kind of pet is a big responsibility.





You have to feed them, groom them, clean after them, take them to the vet regularly, have money for emergencies like accidents and illnesses, buy toys and leashes and stuff for them, make sure their surroundings are clean and harm-free (like no poisonous stuff within their reach) and many more.





not to mention





you have to walk them, play with them, love them.





you have to think of things like - who is going to take care of them whenever you are going away? and things like if your pet gets pregnant what are you going to do?





are you ready for those responsibilities?





maybe your parents think that you are not ready to have a pet.





it's not all fun and games you know.

but i really admire people like you, us - good old pet and animal loving people. thanks kid - hey maybe when you get older and more responsible and ready, then maybe you could have a dog.

By showing them you have responsibility. Dogs or pets of any kind are a lot of work to train, discipline, take care of, groom, walk, etc. By showing your parents that you are cable and ready to handle such a huge responsibility for longer than a few weeks---You become the owner of a great animal for that animal's life span, not when you get tired of it and want a newer one. Why not try pet sitting or dog walking for a few months and then see how you feel later when the novelty of a new pet wears off?
Pick the weakest parent and work on that one lol. Tell them a rescue dog would be a good idea, ask them if you can go to a rescue centre just to ';look'; and when you get there im sure they might change ther mind if you see a dog you like. A rescue dog from the RSPCA etc would be a good idea, you would be helping an animal.





But remember that dogs are a big responsibilty, they need injections, flea treatments, walking even in the rain, cold. When you go on holiday they need a place to stay, feeding everyday etc. But if your prepared to do the walking, cleaning up then it would be a great pet
When buying a dog, you need to understand how much you really have to do. its not just walks and games.





You need to explain to your parents that you are responsible enough to have a dog and that you will look after it as best as you can.





If possible tell them that you would help with the costs and that you would buy it treats and toys to keep him amused.





the same thing happened to me about a week ago, my parents were very unconvinced. but they finally said that if i pay for it myself that i aloud a small dog.

1) Tell them you will get a lot of exercise by playing and walking with one.


2) Say how you are saving a dogs life.


3) Take full responsibility for it.


4) Offer to get straight A's for one semester.


5) Ask for one for their birthday


6) Say that you're bored, lonely, and depressed, and that a dogs companionship will help you a lot.

why dont you tell your parents how you would care for it


i would recomend a smaller dog to start with bigger dogs can be harder to care for


what dog did you have in mind ??

What you could do is prove to your parents that you really will take care of it, thats what worked for me. If you have a family pet you could help look after that, and if you don't say you will keep your room tidy for 2 weeks, or help around the house and prove your responsible.
Just act as if you really need a friend. You have to keep this up at all times, act gloomy.


When ever you see adog, and your with ur rents, give a nice loud sigh, and if you can, go pat the dog and give it lots of affection.


If it gets to the point that you need to cry, CRY.
Just keep asking them. Presitence is the key. My parents wouldn't let me have dog but I told them that I had no freinds and I just wanted someone to be with.





Got a pup 5 weeks later.





Dogs are awsome. Your parents will come to love it in the end.

Go and volunteer at a dog rescue centre. This will help you make sure you are ready for the responsibility of a dog, convince your parents that you will be responsible and not lose interest, and also might help you make a potential doggy friend!
tell them the dog will show you responsibility and you will feed him. some dogs that are found on the street will be put to death. find a really cute dog and say its going to be put to death.
show them pictures of puppies or dogs for adoption even better bring a very well behaved dog over to your house a friends dog or someone who you can borrow it from and they will start wanting a dog
maybe they all ready think you got 1 in your boyfriend and having 2 dogs you can't handle it
Tell them you want a boyfreind three times your age, after they freak out, tell them you'll settle for a dog...
do a deal say if i pay for a bit of the cost u pay the other bit then sorted u have your self a dog
