They only worry since they don't think that its a very good job and want me to become a lawyer or doctor instead. I know that many designers don't get paid that much and go through a lot but I really love designing.I really want to be a designer since I've been sewing since a young age and its been a big dream of mine. I know that its really hard to get to be a big known fashion designer but even if I get as close as being able to own a little botique I'd be happy. How can I convince them that this is something that i'd be happy with? How can I convince my parents that I want to be a fashion designer?
Let me tell you something. I am 26 years old and I have wanted to be a hairdresser since 2nd grade. My parents told me when I was young, hairdressers are a dime a dozen and don't make much money.
I went to college as they had wanted. It was a great experience and I did very well. I got my bachelor's degree in Communications with a focus in Public Relations. I did awesome in my classes with a great GPA. But this was never my passion. I still have an interest in hair, clothes and makeup.
I totally believe that you should do what you want and what is going to make you happy. The truth is, that if you love what you are doing you will find a way to excell in it. Your career is what you make of it. Your parents cannot live their life through you. You are going to have to do whats going to make you happy, not them.
I have decided that I am going to go to comsmetology school this year. I decided I have to do what is going to make me happy. And my parents are totally supportive of it. They are divorced now and they realize that you have to be happy in this lifetime.
I think your idea of a botique is great! You can make a lot of money. Just remember, if you have passion and talent you can shoot for the stars! Its what you make of it! The truth is you are smart, talented, artistic, and creative. I think you will make a lot of money in your field.
Good luck! How can I convince my parents that I want to be a fashion designer?
Just start hooking up with some people in the buzz. Get a job for a designer. Good luck, live your own Life.
dang cant they see how much you want to be a designer?? after all you said that you have beed sewing almost all your life and you seem really serious about it. oohh try designing some clothes: draw an outfit or 2 on a piece of paper and ask your parent's opinion. and what is wrong with a small boutique?? dang if you get a small boutique then you have succeeded big time! a small boutique has alot of business too. claire's boutique, all the jewelry and cute girly accessories they got, oh dang they got BIG business! you may get alot of business if you start a small boutique. i like boutiques too. i may be a fashion designer too but first im goin into cosmatology-hair and nails. just follow your dreams and keep doing what you do girl!!
My parents always wanted me to become a lawyer or doctor too. But i've always had a passion for acting and singing. They know that you can make a lot of money in acting but only if you're really succesfull. So they worry that if i become an actress but not succesfull enough, i might not make a lot of money. But i've told them that acting and singing is what i love to do and i'm really good at it. They've seen a play i was in last year and they kinda agree with me too now. This year i'm gonna be in a musical and they're happy for me. Just show your parents your designs and tell them that you really love to do that. Tell them that you don't see yourself as a future lawyer or doctor but as a fashion designer. Good luck!
A good way to convince them is to go to college and start studying the fashion designing, that may convince them.
Sides, they have no right to tell you what you wanna be.
Have a good arguement. Show them that it isn't just a whim and you haven't made a big mistake. Do some research on design courses, apprenticeships and work experience. Show them that it is something you wish to do and tell them how you will fund your ambition i.e. scholarships, part-time job etc. Make sure you do not waver in your opinion. Show that you are determined and that this is what you want.
If they battle on still, emphasise you need their support to follow your dream and how much you want them to be happy for you!
well im a designer and i was lucky i hit it off quick and i get paid a 6 digit salary...but if u have the talent and ambition u can definately make more than a doctor or lawyer...and you can also open up boutiques and grow into a franchize...whcih would require a business degree.
Show them how much that you like it and i mean show them what work you have done and how good you are at this
Really, you dont need your parents permition to be what ever you want to be, dont let them change what you want (or you wil haft to deal with it the rest of your life).
