I have a dog and 3 cats but i would hang up the bird.
I have had a parakeet before when i was about 5 but then it died. How can i convince my parents to get me a parakeet?
One thing to consider before getting any bird is that most birds live longer than a dog or cat. I assume you are still young, perhaps a teenager. Do you plan on attending college? What happens to the parakeet then? Does it become your parents' pet? I sense they are not all too interested in owning a bird. What about vacations? Will you pay a friend to watch your bird those times you are gone more than a couple days? Will you have to hire a pet sitter?
Expenses are another issue. True, parakeets can be purchased quite cheaply, however they are considered exotic animals by Vets. Exotic bird vet visits can easily cost much more than one for a dog or cat. Birds can become ill or injured, needing medical attention. A well-bird visit typically starts at $65, and that is in a rural area. Big city vets might charge more. Add to that visit some cultures or bloodwork, and the total has jumped to about $150 for one wee birdie.
All things to consider before you bring what many consider ';disposable'; birds into your home. Be responsible, think years ahead before commiting to take in another pet, especially a long-lived exotic bird. How can i convince my parents to get me a parakeet?
Prove to them that you are a very responiable person. Feed your animals without them asking you to feed them. Also clean up after them as well. Good luck
Hi,
show your parents that you have enough time to play and care for your animals as well as having time to help your parents around the house. parents always want to know that if you get a new animal you wont exclude your other animals.
P.S If you don't have enough money to buy the parakeet be extra nice to them LOL
do u really have time for it?? if not but u really really want one get 2 because they will play with each other if u dont, they love being togeather!
think long and hard before you buy.... birds are cute, fun to look at. but there is alot of work and commitment to owning one.
Show them you are capable of taking care of the other animals. Offer to do dishes... anything that will make less housework for them to butter them up. By showing them you are responsible with what you already have, that might make them inclined to consider the parakeet. Also, remind them that it doesn't cost a lot to take care of a parakeet so not much out of their pocket. And you would be very happy... Good luck!!
