I am going into high school and I really would like to have a face book so i can meet new people and what not. However, my parents don't want me having one. I think that their main concerns are potential overuse off the computer, antisocial behavior, and the safety issues';. How do i prove to them that facebook is a safe site that I will no become addicted to?How can I convince my parents to allow me to get a facebook?
You will get addicted, believe me. Also though I wouldnt get one to ';meet people'; thats not safe. What I use facebook for is to connect to my friends that I dont see as much. Maybe you should bring that up to your parents. And also let them know about the safety features. You can make your profile as private as you want. You can have it so nobody can search for you, and that you only add people not the other way around.
But i really dont think facebook is really worth a fight with your parents. I think its cooler that you dont have one.. And worse case scenario just get one anyway. If you set it up right nobody can search for youHow can I convince my parents to allow me to get a facebook?
One thing you can do is suggest that they get a facebook account themselves, and they can add you as a friend. That helps calm some parents' misgivings about the safety of facebook. That may also help them to see that facebook can actually encourage social behavior by helping you connect with your friends, if they find that they know several people on there as well. (It's amazing how many adults are on facebook now!) Have them talk to other parents about it, too; most of the parents I know that once had misgivings about facebook lost them after they joined or got used to it. You could also suggest some kind of time limit, such as promising to use it for only a half hour each day, if they are concerned with overuse of the computer. Good luck!! :)
when i wanted a facebook i convinced my mom to let me, but in return she had to make one and add me as a friend so she could see what i was doing.
Facebook is a social networking site for your friends, hence the name 'friends list', it's NOT for adding randoms and meeting new people!
Here's an idea: don't tell them.
